For the first time, the École nationale supérieure d’art et de design de Nancy | Ensad Nancy is participating in this event, thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture – Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Drac) Grand Est, the Institut Français du Luxembourg, the French Embassy in Luxembourg, and the Victor Hugo Association.
This unprecedented collaboration highlights the work of four recent graduates from Ensad Nancy, selected by a professional jury: Camille Pradel de Lamaze, Délia Préteux, Baptiste Thiebaut Jacquel, and Nan Zhang.

For Luxembourg Art Week, Nan Zhang has chosen to exhibit works from her series Brothers, born from her rereading of Shi Nai‑an’s novel Water Margin.
This book, which dates from the end of the Ming dynasty and the beginning of the Qing dynasty, at first glance seems imbued with loyalty and brotherhood. However, behind these stories lie absurdity and violence, including scenes of murder. This strong contrast inspired the artist to create the Brothers series, composed of large-scale works with a narrative dimension. She deliberately avoided bloody depictions by altering the color of the blood, so as not to distract the viewer with a visual shock.
Although each scene is inspired by a specific passage from the novel, Nan Zhang did not want her paintings to be mere illustrations. What interests Nan Zhang is conveying an intensity, an absurdity, and a raw cruelty, unfiltered. As in her other works, she chose not to include identifying signs or historical markers in her settings.
